The medieval chastity belt is a museum fake.

There is no credible evidence for chastity belts before the 15th century – so crusaders cannot have used them. The famous exhibits at the Musée de Cluny and the British Museum are now considered 19th-century productions and have been taken off display.

Useful: A genuine object in a genuine museum can still be telling an invented story.
