Oxford University is older than the Aztec Empire.
Teaching in Oxford is documented from 1096; the university grew rapidly after 1167, when English students had to leave Paris. The Aztecs, by contrast, founded their capital Tenochtitlan only in 1325, more than 200 years later. By the time Cortés conquered the city in 1521, Oxford already had several colleges with over 200 years of history.
