"Arabic numerals" are an Indian invention.
The signs 0 to 9 emerged in India between the 1st and 4th centuries, the place-value system around 600. Arab and Persian scholars adopted it in the 9th century. Europe learned it above all through Fibonacci's "Liber Abaci" of 1202 – and named it after the intermediaries, not the inventors.
Useful: Whoever passes a technology on tends to get the name; whoever invented it gets forgotten.
