A radio whose model number was a date.
The Volksempfänger VE 301 went on sale in August 1933 for 76 Reichsmark, about two weeks' wages. The 301 stood for 30 January 1933, Hitler's takeover. The goal: a set in every household receiving state radio. Households with a radio rose from 25 percent in 1933 to 65 percent in 1941; the USA and Scandinavia still ranked higher.
Useful: Whoever wants to control reach makes the receiver cheap, not the programme.
