The first cinema programme lasted about 20 minutes.
On 28 December 1895, Auguste and Louis Lumière showed ten short films to a paying audience at the Grand Café in Paris, each around 50 seconds long. On screen: workers leaving a factory, a baby eating breakfast, a gardener getting sprayed. Admission cost one franc. This is the birth of cinema as a business.
Useful: A medium becomes an industry the moment people pay for it at the door.
