A 5,300-year-old murder case with 61 tattoos.
On 19 September 1991, hikers found a glacier mummy at 3,210 metres in the Ötztal Alps. Ötzi lived around 3300 BC, was about 45 years old and carried a copper axe, a bow and clothing from several animals. In 2001, an arrowhead was found in his left shoulder: he was killed. His 61 tattoos sit on joints, possibly pain treatment.
Useful: A single well-preserved find can reveal more about daily life than a hundred graves.
