Body & HealthFact
Your smallest bone is about the size of a rice grain.
The stapes in the middle ear measures only about 2 to 3 millimetres, making it the smallest and lightest bone in your body. It sits at the end of the ossicle chain and passes the eardrum's vibrations on to the oval window of the inner ear.
Useful: Without this millimetre-scale lever, airborne sound would barely reach the fluid of the inner ear.
