Body & HealthHow it works
How a wound becomes a scar in four phases.
First, haemostasis stops the bleeding within minutes. Then the inflammatory phase clears debris and microbes. From day two to five fibroblasts move in, new vessels and collagen appear. Finally the remodelling phase rearranges the collagen – it can last a year or longer.
Useful: After three weeks collagen has about 20 percent of its strength, after twelve months around 80.
