A 3,700-year-old law code carved in stone.
Around 1750 BC, the Babylonian king Hammurabi had roughly 282 legal rules carved into a basalt stele 2.25 metres tall: rules on rent, wages, marriage, shoddy building work and theft. The stele was excavated in 1901 in Persian Susa, where Elamites had carried it off as war booty. Today it stands in the Louvre in Paris.
Useful: Many everyday problems you consider modern were already regulated by law 37 centuries ago.
